To give is better than to receive─

After studying Buddhism for the past three years, I recognize the importance of helping others and the need to reduce suffering in the world.

Yet, I had no way to put what I’ve studied into action.

When I joined Tzu Chi four months ago, I finally had the opportunity I needed to make a difference. Whether it’s picking up litter on Yonge Street to keep the environment clean, or spending a Sunday afternoon interacting with the seniors at Heritage Nursing Home, I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute.

But I also found that being part of the Tzu Chi family is not just about improving the lives of others, but also a chance to improve our own lives.

After every event, I walk away with a wonderful sense of happiness. By simply sharing our joy with others, we feel their joy in return.

This is what makes being part of Tzu Chi so rewarding.
