On February 6th, the Tzu Chi Richmond “Senior Socialness Class” held its highly anticipated first session. Centered around the Jing Si Aphorism “A joyful heart is a form of cultivation,” the class invited seniors from the community to nurture both their bodies and minds.
The session was led by the energetic 85-year-old instructor, Ms. Qiu-Yue Lin. Under her guidance, participants stretched and moved with enthusiasm, filling the room with laughter and demonstrating the true beauty of aging gracefully. Balancing movement with stillness, the class also featured a tea ceremony where participants shared Jing Si Aphorisms, practicing the art of “harboring good thoughts and speaking good words.”
The highlight of the event was the “Eco-Friendly Fabric Drum” session. Participants picked up drumsticks and played in unison, their eyes shining with focus and confidence. Together, they chanted: “Wish me health! Wish you happiness! Wish everyone no worries!”—a powerful affirmation of well-being for all.
This vibrant group of seniors is now working towards forming the “Senior Wisdom Drum Team,” with a goal to perform on stage this coming November. We look forward to seeing more seniors find joy and freedom in life through learning and interaction in our future classes.
