Following a previous donation of clothing to the Salvation Army’s Richmond House emergency shelter in Vancouver, Tzu Chi Canada Chapter once again organized 50 blankets and 90 daily necessity packages to help homeless people through winter.

In Vancouver, Canada, the Richmond food bank has been open to residents in need of supplies during the pandemic. Tzu Chi volunteers have also been helping with packaging processes.

Calgary, Canada is under a state of constant ice and snow every winter from September to March. However, Tzu Chi volunteers are undeterred by the weather. They arrive at a local donation center every month to assist in organization of second-hand clothes.  

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect many events across the world. Tzu Chi Canada Chapter held the year-end blessing ceremony online via livestream this year, inviting many friends from different places to share best wishes for the new year.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, countries around the world faced a shortage of masks and protective equipment. In order to protect front-line nursing staff, Tzu Chi Canada donated 120,000 disposable masks and 4,000 face shields to the British Columbia Government. In addition, volunteers went to the local shelters to provide masks for vulnerable groups.

In Surrey, Canada, Tzu Chi volunteers have been distributing food to the food bank for 17 years. During the epidemic, Tzu Chi volunteers continued to deliver the needed food and even donated epidemic prevention supplies.

There are confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Canada now. Therefore, Tzu Chi Academy taught students how to protect themselves and others in classes. They also promote vegetarian diets to save the Earth.

As the epidemic spreads globally, there is still a need for masks. Tzu Chi Canada Chapter has donated 6,000 masks to Ending Violence Association, to protect the staff members against the spread of the virus.
